I like the word “afoot.”
On foot.
In action.
In progress.
Autumn wasn’t meant to be experienced indoors. It requires participation…
With apples and camera in hand, I went exploring.
Where to take the picture? Hmm….
(Disregard the photographer in the spoon…)
While I debate this dilemma, allow me to share the recipe.
Apples & Walnuts With Cinnamon Caramel Sauce
1 tart apple (per person), cored and sliced
1/4 c. toasted walnuts (per person)
Cinnamon Caramel Sauce:
4 T. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 T. milk
1/2 t. vanilla
1/2 t. cinnamon
Melt butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir in brown sugar, milk, vanilla and cinnamon. Increase heat slightly and bring mixture to a boil. Cook and stir until “caramelly” consistency. (I like my sauce thinner; use your judgement.) Cool slightly and drizzle over apples and walnuts. Enjoy!
As to where to take that final shot…

It’s Autumn!
Now go outside and play.
Enjoying all things afoot,
~ Kim
I came personally to thank you for visiting my blog. Thanks for the comments. What a lovely shocking pink apple bowl for the apple dessert. It is a great idea to take the photos outdoor, adds a whole new dimension to it. I learn a new word today afoot. I am going to tell my Quay Lo, don’t disturb me when I am in the kitchen, dinner is afoot! Did I use it right? Sorry, my English is half past six. I have not improve a single bit even after married to my Quay Lo for 15 yrs. I still confuse him calling a he, she and a she, he. When I give him direction when going places, I asked him to go up and go down. I still say blow the cake instead of blow the candles and just now means quite a long while ago. He gave up correcting me. LOL! Have a wonderful week.
I really liked that you went outdoor to find a great location for photo shooting. I personally like the first picture. It’s very cozy and it belongs there! I love your cinnamon caramel sauce!
Thanks, Nami! I’ll find any excuse to go outside during Autumn :) — taking pictures of food outdoors is just plain FUN!

This is a beautiful recipe and the photographer should have covered the entire spoon. Love those autumn leaves in the background.
Glad you liked the glimpse of autumn (and me, lol!) — fall must seem far off, since you’re in the middle of Springtime there!

Such a great and simple dessert. I’m the same way and prefer my ‘caramel’ to be on the thinner side (it makes it better for drizzling!)
Bonus – that apple dish is adorable! It looks so great against the leafy background.
Thanks! It’s actually a dish for serving jams or jellies, but sometimes I think outside of the bowl. :)

Taking your apples for a walk is too cool. A few years ago I had a yellow cab fixation an I would frame up a shot of a New York landmark and then wait till a cab came into he frame in just the right place. Ah he things we do for art LOL
Isn’t it fun, Mike? :)

I love it! What a fun adventure! I think my favorite one is with the leaves – followed closely by the one that shows you in the spoon (that happens to me all the time!) GREAT recipe!
Ann, your enthusiasm is contagious. You just made me enjoy autumn — and cooking — and taking photos — even more!

I am cracking up because I try to use the word afoot in conversations… because it makes me laugh. My boss finds it hilarious because I will walk into his office sometimes after seeing a client and say something is afoot within. (It is so much better than saying in progress!) Yes, I am wacky ;)
Oh, Christy, I love that! You’re not wacky — you’re “adorkable.” :) Thanks for your inspiring autumn series on “Becoming…” too!

Kimby, I love this simple autumn recipe for apples and your wonderful perspective on the season. This crisp air makes me want to move, too. I love fall!!!!
Thanks, Amee! Crisp apples and crisp air are an inspiring combo. :) Have fun!

Cinnamon Caramel sauce…yum!! This would be good on so many things other than just apples!
Hey, Erin! That’s half the fun, thinking up new ways to combine food and flavors. Go for it! I love “blog world” — creative ideas abound!

Lovely pictures and the apples look so delicious..I also like my caramel sauce thin! I should try taking pictures of my food outdoors (if my tiny backyard counts).
Sometimes our neighbors must wonder, watching me wander around with plates (or bowls) of food and setting them “here and there.” Don’t let anyone — or a small back yard — stop ya! It’ll be fun to see what you come up with!

Nice outdoorsy photos here of one of the purest fall desserts I have seen. Apples walnuts and caramel-awesome treat. Yum!
Thank you, Tina! I like how you phrased that… Sometimes I “complicate” food and your comment was a good reminder that simple flavors can stand on their own! :)

mmmmm… perfect breakfast.
and i like the photographer in the spoon, it adds character to your photo :)
Glad you enjoyed that — didn’t realize I was “in there” until after I took the photos. Gotta love the element of surprise! :)

I’ve been loving your recipes recently. Plus, apples in an apple bowl? Extremely cute. =)
Thanks, Jenna! The bowl was a gift with some jams & jellies, but it had “caramel apple sundae” written all over it. :)

If only it would cool down here in Los Angeles… (We had the AC on last night.) Your photos look so tempting!
Hi, Maia! Hope things cool down for you — it’s hard to think “autumn” when it feels like summer. Wishing you fall weather SOON!
~ Kim
I can hardly wait to enjoy Autumn with you, Sweet Sister! :)
Let the countdown begin… :) Can hardly wait ’til you arrive, my lovely Laurie!
~ Kim
feels so Autumnyyyyyy!! :)
Thanks, Rohini! Our seasons are a little slower to unfold here, but they last longer — more to savor!

Kimby, I adore your outdoor shoots! Guess I should venture out more often too :) Gonna take my apples out for a walk too………….
Shirley, I love that — taking your apples for a walk! There’s so much to enjoy outdoors during Autumn — food included!
