Homemade Truffles — A Taste of Childhood
A wonderful dessert! Easy to make and gone in no time — easy to make, quick to eat, and never forgotten! I first tried these at age 4 and was absolutely smitten. Recently, for my mom's 36th birthday, we decided to make them together again; I memorized every step and today made them all by myself. Mom loved making these truffles in her younger years too, back in the Soviet days. So tasty and homey! Give them a try yourself!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
My cat Lefa, by the way, helped out with the cooking too :)
-
Step 2:
Melt the sugar with the milk in a saucepan over the stove.
-
Step 3:
Once the sugar and milk look like this, take the pan off the heat.
-
Step 4:
Then add the butter.
-
Step 5:
Stir until the butter has fully melted in, then set it in a cool spot to cool down.
-
Step 6:
Stir half the powdered milk (or formula) into the cooled mixture.
-
Step 7:
Gradually add the rest and stir until smooth.
-
Step 8:
Then add the cocoa, preferably unsweetened.
-
Step 9:
Knead it by hand until it reaches a moldable, dough-like consistency.
-
Step 10:
Here are the shaped candies — and peeking in the background are some other "truffles," namely the ears of my second cat, Chusha, who also helped out! :)
-
Step 11:
These are the truffles we ran out of cocoa for. They aren't coated, but they're every bit as good.
-
Step 12:
Pop the truffles in the fridge to firm up. Serve the finished candies with a cup of tea — everyone will love them! Enjoy! :)
