Step-by-step cooking
Step 1:
How to cook red lentils in a slow cooker? Prepare the products. For cooking, it is better to use filtered or bottled water that is neutral to taste. If you use tap water, keep in mind that it can give the dish an unpleasant characteristic taste. Take any vegetable oil suitable for frying.
Step 2:
Sort out the lentils, remove the litter and unripe greenish grains. Lentils are much softer than peas and it is not necessary to soak them before cooking. I still soaked the cereal for 10 minutes, and even during this time the lentils swelled. If you also plan to do this, then soak the lentils for no more than 2 hours. Then rinse the cereal well under running cool water. Let the water drain by throwing the lentils on a sieve or colander with small holes.
Step 3:
Wash and peel the onions and carrots. Then cut them arbitrarily — I cut onions into quarters of rings, and carrots into cubes. You can rub it on a coarse grater. It doesn't matter. Chop the garlic in any convenient way — with a knife, on a grater or through a press.
Step 4:
Pour vegetable oil into the bowl of the slow cooker, put onions and carrots. Choose the appropriate mode for frying, "Frying" or "Baking", depending on your multicooker model. Stir-fry the vegetables until transparent, while not closing the lid.
Step 5:
Add lentils. Spread it evenly over the bottom, mixing with the vegetables.
Step 6:
Pour in the amount of water as recommended by the manufacturer on the package, I have two parts of water for one part of lentils. But at the same time, the water should completely hide the grains.
Step 7:
After adding water, close the lid, in the mode of "Cereals" or "Rice" (again, depending on the model) set the time to 20 minutes. 5 minutes before cooking, salt the lentils, add garlic, mix well. The finished porridge will be well boiled in mashed potatoes, in appearance and taste it is very similar to pea.
Step 8:
Serve the lentils hot as an independent dish or as a side dish, sprinkled with herbs. There are many options. Enjoy your meal!
Keep in mind that the cooking time and mode are indicated approximately in the recipe. All slow cookers work differently and even the same models of the same manufacturer may have their own characteristics. Before you start cooking a new dish for you in a slow cooker, carefully study the instructions for it, and then in practice try to cook dishes that are familiar to you first, and then new ones, choosing the mode and time individually for your own technique.
Use oil with a high smoking temperature for frying! Any oils are useful only until a certain temperature is reached - the point of smoking, at which the oil begins to burn and toxic substances, including carcinogens, are formed in it.
Unrefined oils, with rare exceptions, have a low smoking point. There are a lot of unfiltered organic particles in them, which quickly begin to burn.
Refined oils are more resistant to heating, and their smoking point is higher. If you are going to cook food in the oven, on a frying pan or grill, make sure that you use oil with a high smoking point. The most common of the oils with a high smoking point: refined varieties of sunflower, olive and grape.
Keep in mind that the final result in this dish also depends on how you chop the carrots: grated carrots will turn into mush during heat treatment and mix evenly with the rest of the ingredients, cut into strips or cubes will retain their shape.
