Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you cook chicken drumsticks on an electric grill? Start by gathering all your ingredients. You can use other cuts of chicken with this recipe too—wings, breast, or thighs all turn out delicious.
-
Step 2:
Rinse the drumsticks under cold running water and remove any leftover feathers. Pat the chicken dry with a kitchen towel to remove excess water and place it in a deep bowl that's good for marinating.
-
Step 3:
Add the spices and seasonings. Which spices work for the marinade? Choose whatever you like. You can also use a ready-made chicken or meat seasoning blend. This time I used khmeli-suneli, smoked paprika, garlic powder, ground peppers, and dried thyme (about 1/2 tsp of each). Add a few rosemary needles if you like. Pour the vegetable oil and soy sauce into the bowl. Salt to taste, but keep in mind the soy sauce is already salty on its own.
-
Step 4:
Toss everything thoroughly so each drumstick is coated in the fragrant marinade. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and let it sit at room temperature for 30 to 60 minutes, or refrigerate for longer.
-
Step 5:
Preheat a contact (panini-style) grill to 350°F (180°C). Brush the grill plates with refined vegetable oil using a silicone brush. Lay the marinated drumsticks on the grill. Close the lid and cook the chicken for about 25–30 minutes. How do you check that it's done? Cut into a drumstick down to the bone—if the juices run clear, the chicken is ready!
-
Step 6:
Serve the chicken drumsticks hot with fresh vegetables, herbs, and any salads you like.
- Chicken marinated in spices, soy sauce, and oil can also be cooked in a regular skillet or a grill pan. The meat comes out incredibly delicious cooked over an open grill. Enjoy!
- You can swap the chicken for turkey or any other meat you like. Just keep in mind that the cooking time and calorie count will change.
- Since everyone's preference for saltiness, sweetness, bitterness, heat, tang, and spice is different, always add spices and seasonings to your own taste! If you're using a seasoning for the first time, remember that some spices are especially easy to overdo (chili pepper, for example).
- If you use pre-made spice blends, always check the ingredient list on the package. These blends often already contain salt, so factor that in or you risk over-salting the dish.
