Cooking method

  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make lemon and mint lemonade? Very easily! First, gather the ingredients on the list. You can adjust the amount of sugar, lemons, and mint to your taste. The bigger the lemon, the more pronounced the drink's flavor will be.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Wash and dry the mint. Pull the leaves off the stems and chop them with a knife so they release their juice.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Since the lemon goes into the drink peel and all, rinse the fruit thoroughly, scrub it with a brush, and rinse it again.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Then cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice from the halves. It's easiest with a manual or electric juicer.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Put the chopped mint and lemon peel in a pot. Cover with cold water. How do you avoid bitterness in the drink? The bitterness comes from the white pith between the flesh and the zest. The thinner that pith, the less bitter the drink. So choose thin-skinned fruit. If the pith is thick, it's better to use only the yellow zest, removing it with a knife. The bitterness doesn't bother me, so I added the peels whole.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Set the pot over medium heat. Bring the water to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. In that time, the zest and mint give their flavor and aroma to the drink.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Take the pot off the heat. Add the sugar and stir thoroughly. Let the drink cool until it's just warm.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Once the drink has cooled, fish the lemon peels out of the pot. Strain the lemonade through a sieve into another container. Pour in the lemon juice and stir.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

Refrigerate the lemonade for 2–3 hours until completely chilled.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10

Pour the chilled drink into glasses. Add mint leaves, slices of fresh lemon, and ice cubes to each, and serve right away. Enjoy!

  • Instead of sugar, you can use a sweetener that holds up to heat.
  • For making this, it's best to use filtered or bottled water that's neutral in taste. If you use tap water, keep in mind that it can give the drink an unpleasant, distinctive aftertaste.
  • The recipe can be built on and varied. For example, add two thin slices of fresh ginger root while cooking. You can swap the lemon for grapefruit or round it out with lime. The flavor of the drink will change — try it and see what you like best.
