Step-by-step cooking
Step 1:
How to make feijoa with honey? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. To make the jam delicious and fragrant, choose large fruits, without damage, not hard and fragrant. Honey is best taken floral, it has a subtle aroma that perfectly complements the smell of feijoa berries. But do not forget that honey, like any beekeeping product, can cause a strong allergic reaction. Therefore, take this into account when using it yourself or offering it to others.
Step 2:
Go through the feijoa berries, removing the damaged ones, and wash them. Then put the berries in a colander and pour boiling water, as the berries will be used unpeeled, along with the peel. Spread the feijoa on a paper towel and let it dry completely. Excess moisture in the jam is not needed, besides, it can cause mold.
Step 3:
Cut off the tails of the dried berries and cut into pieces. I don't have a very large one, so I cut it in half.
Step 4:
Put the prepared berries in a blender bowl.
Step 5:
Punch everything to the desired state. It can be a homogeneous, smooth mass. Personally, I like it when there are small pieces in this jam. Also, instead of a blender, you can pass feijoa through a meat grinder with a fine grate several times, until the desired consistency.
Step 6:
Add honey to the chopped feijoa. Honey should be liquid, so it will mix better and faster. If you have honey that has thickened, put it in a water bath and, stirring, bring it to a liquid state. But, in any case, do not heat it on an open fire or in the microwave. After all, at temperatures above 40 degrees, it loses its useful properties. And at temperatures above 60 degrees, it begins to emit a toxic substance - oxymethylfurfural.
Step 7:
Punch everything a little more with a blender so that the honey mixes with the berry mass. Often, in order for the finished product not to darken, lemon is added, but in my opinion it interrupts the delicate aroma of the berry itself.
Step 8:
Wash the cans thoroughly with baking soda in hot water and sterilize in any convenient way. I use a microwave oven for this purpose. Pour water 2-3 centimeters high into clean jars. Turn on the stove for 4 minutes at full power. Then take them out, drain the water and let them dry.
Step 9:
Then put the feijoa with honey in them, close the boiled lids and put them in the refrigerator. It can be stored for several months. From this amount, approximately 2 cans of 250 grams and one jar of 150 grams are obtained.
Step 10:
Bon appetit.
