Homemade Lemon Vodka
A strong drink with a bright citrus flavor! Homemade lemon vodka is very simple to make. The bright taste and aroma of lemon transfer completely into the drink. And if you add more sugar, it tastes like a liqueur. Many people will love the long citrus aftertaste!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make homemade lemon vodka? Gather the ingredients you'll need. Use good-quality vodka. You can adjust the amount of sugar a little to taste. In general, all the proportions are approximate and you can tweak them as you see fit. Choose medium-sized lemons with smooth skin. Bumpy lemons have very thick skin, so you get less juice.
-
Step 2:
Wash the lemons thoroughly with a brush in warm soapy water to remove all dirt and the wax they're coated with before sale. Pour boiling water over the lemons. Remove the zest, trying not to get the white pith - it would add bitterness. Then squeeze the juice from the lemons.
-
Step 3:
Pour the sugar into a jar and add the lemon zest. Pour the lemon juice over everything. Stir so the sugar starts to dissolve.
-
Step 4:
Fill the jar with vodka, close the lid, and mix everything again. Store the jar at room temperature for 3-5 days. The warmer the room, the faster the drink infuses. Shake the jar several times during the infusion so the sugar has time to fully dissolve.
-
Step 5:
Strain the finished drink through several layers of cheesecloth and pour it into a decanter or a clean bottle. Before serving, I recommend chilling the lemon vodka in the fridge for a few hours.
-
Step 6:
A great drink for a festive table! You can add a little ice when serving.
- For the infusion, instead of vodka you can use diluted spirit or good-quality purified moonshine. The taste and aroma of lemon will round out these strong drinks.
- Store lemon vodka in an airtight container in a dark, cool place for no more than a year.
- You can add various extras to the lemon - cucumber, mint, or ginger, for example. Each ingredient gives a new flavor note. By trying different combinations, you're sure to find your favorite.
