Beer-Braised Beef
This dish takes hardly any time and will surprise you with its flavor! My husband adores this beef — he'd give up beer for it. As it cooks, the meat gives off the aroma of bread; it's really delicious. Give it a try — maybe your husband will trade his beer for it too. It's a recipe for anyone short on time: no need to hover over the stove.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Cut the meat into thin strips and brown it right in the pot you'll braise it in — ideally a heavy-bottomed pot. Season with salt and pepper.
-
Step 2:
Slice the onions into half-moons — use plenty. Pile the onion on top of the meat.
-
Step 3:
Lay the bread slices over the onion and tuck the bay leaves in around the sides.
-
Step 4:
Pour the beer over everything and braise over the lowest heat. It's a long, slow braise — about 3 hours. Around the two-hour mark, stir the sauce and let it keep going. Over that time, the onion and bread break down into a smooth, excellent sauce. Serve with potatoes, pasta, or any grain.
