Oatmeal porridge with banana
The most wholesome, nourishing breakfast for the whole family! Oatmeal porridge with banana is a way of making the ever-popular oatmeal that'll win over even those who usually aren't fans. The banana goes in while it cooks and gives the porridge a lovely aroma and flavor. You can make it with milk or with water.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make oatmeal porridge with banana? Gather the ingredients. Any oats will work — quick-cooking or long-cooking. The kind that takes longer to cook is much more wholesome, and that's what I prefer. Use milk of any fat content, to taste or whatever you have on hand. You can use water instead of milk in the same 1:3 ratio. Adjust the sugar and salt to your liking, and keep in mind there's a sweet banana going in.
-
Step 2:
Use a suitable saucepan or pot for cooking the porridge — a heavy-bottomed one is best, so it won't scorch. Add the oats and the milk, then the salt and sugar.
-
Step 3:
Set the saucepan over medium heat.
-
Step 4:
While the porridge heats, cut the banana into small pieces.
-
Step 5:
Meanwhile the milk will come to a boil — stir it so the oats don't stick to the bottom. There's another method where you bring the milk to a boil first and add the oats only after, usually to check that the milk won't curdle as it cooks. I trust my milk, so I always make it this way. Lower the heat and stir the chopped banana into the porridge.
-
Step 6:
Leave the porridge to cook over low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring now and then.
-
Step 7:
When the porridge is done, turn off the heat and stir in the butter.
-
Step 8:
Cover the saucepan and let the porridge rest for 10 minutes. It'll steam and thicken even more.
-
Step 9:
Serve the porridge topped with banana slices. You can add any berries, nuts, or honey. Enjoy!
- We eat oatmeal every day for breakfast, but this version — with the banana added right at the start — was my first time. We loved it! The porridge came out fragrant and very tasty!

- Instead of sugar, you can use a sweetener that holds up to heat.
