"Men's Caprice" Salad with Beef
Simple, quick, made from everyday ingredients, and very tasty! "Men's Caprice" salad with beef is a recipe for a hearty meat salad that's right at home on the table on a weekday or for a celebration. It's made from a short list of ingredients, and even a beginner cook can handle it.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make "Men's Caprice" salad with beef? Prepare the ingredients. Boil the beef and eggs ahead of time. How do you boil the beef? Rinse the meat thoroughly, put it in cold water, and add salt. Bring it to a boil and skim off the foam. Cook the meat over low heat for anywhere from 40 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on the quality and size of the cut. Cool the beef and cut it into small cubes or pull it into shreds.
-
Step 2:
How do you hard-boil eggs? To keep them from cracking, put them in cold water and set them over low heat. Boil the eggs for 9 minutes after the water comes to a boil, then cover them with cold water and cool them. The sudden temperature change makes them easier to peel.
-
Step 3:
A salad onion is best here, but a regular one works too — it just needs to be quick-pickled to take the harsh bite out. How do you pickle the onion? Peel it and cut it into half-rings, then pour a mixture of wine vinegar and sugar over it. Let the onion marinate for 10 minutes, then drain off the liquid and tip the onion into a colander.
-
Step 4:
Use a hard cheese with a neutral flavor so its taste doesn't overshadow the other ingredients in the salad. Choose natural cheese, without vegetable-fat substitutes. Grate it on the coarse side of a grater.
-
Step 5:
Peel the eggs and grate them as well.
-
Step 6:
Assemble the salad — it's best layered, for a prettier, more festive look. For the first layer, spread out the pickled onion and brush it with a thin layer of mayonnaise.
-
Step 7:
Spread the prepared beef on top and brush it with mayonnaise again.
-
Step 8:
Next, add a layer of grated eggs and brush that with mayonnaise too.
-
Step 9:
For the last layer, add the cheese, sprinkling it over the top and around the sides of the salad. Put the salad in the refrigerator for a couple of hours so the layers soak up the mayonnaise well. Before serving, you can garnish the salad with fresh herbs. Serve it up. Enjoy!
- It's better to make the mayonnaise yourself — it's tastier and better for you. You'll find some good homemade mayonnaise recipes here. As a dressing you can also use sour cream or plain yogurt instead of mayonnaise. Use them on their own or mix them with mayonnaise in any ratio you like — that will cut the calories.
- You can swap the beef for any other meat you prefer. Just keep in mind that the cooking time, as well as the flavor and calorie count, will change. Pork and lamb are usually fattier than beef, while chicken breast or turkey are leaner. And the cooking time depends not only on the type of meat but also on which cut you use and how old or young the meat is.
- Since everyone's sense of saltiness, sweetness, bitterness, heat, acidity, and pungency is different, always add spices and seasonings to your own taste! If you're using a seasoning for the first time, keep in mind that some are especially easy to overdo (chili pepper, for example).
