Ginger Tonic with Coconut Water and Turmeric

When you need a quick pick-me-up, just whip up this drink! This tonic brings together the best ingredients that Ayurvedic and folk traditions recommend for general wellness and cleansing. Drink it right after you make it. If you don't finish it all, refrigerate it and drink it within 12 hours. You can dilute it with hot water to serve it warm.

What's in it and why it's good for you:

1) Coconut water is a wonderful natural source of trace minerals — a single 11 oz (0.33 L) serving provides about 15% of your daily potassium, which is great for the heart, brain, and blood vessels. Coconut water also contains magnesium, calcium, iodine, phosphorus, selenium, and other minerals and vitamins, and it supports the body's natural detox process. Be sure to use real coconut water, not an imitation. Don't use coconut milk for this recipe — coconut water and coconut milk are two completely different things!

2) Ginger is a powerful antioxidant that supports the body, helps flush out toxins, and boosts immunity.

3) Lemon is a natural source of vitamin C and an antioxidant that aids digestion and supports the liver and gallbladder.

4) Real honey delivers vitamins and trace minerals and gives you a quick energy lift from its easily digestible sugars. I use honey from a beekeeper I trust, but any good-quality honey works.

5) Turmeric is one of nature's most powerful healing ingredients. It's a natural antiseptic with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and it has long been valued in traditional medicine.
