Turkey Fillet with Mushrooms

A quick, homey dish that's both delicious and filling! Just about any mushrooms will work here. If you like a thicker sauce, stir in a little flour toward the end of cooking. You can also add any spices you like. I used dark turkey meat for this recipe; if you use white meat, you can shorten the cooking time since it's more tender.

Cooking method

    Here's what you'll need to make turkey with mushrooms.

    Cut the turkey fillet into medium pieces.

    Cut the mushrooms (mine were frozen and then thawed) in half, or into quarters, depending on their size.

    Cut the onion into half-moons.

    Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet and sauté the mushrooms and onion until soft.

    In a second skillet, heat another tablespoon of vegetable oil and sear the turkey fillet until golden brown.

    Add the mushrooms and onion to the seared turkey, pour in 1 cup of water, and stir in the sour cream (mine was 20% fat) and salt. Mix and simmer for 20 minutes.

    While the dish simmers, cut the garlic cloves into large pieces.

    After 20 minutes of simmering, add the chopped garlic and let it cook another 5 minutes.

    After 5 minutes, you can turn off the stove. The turkey with mushrooms is ready.

    Serve it on its own or with a side dish. It pairs well with fresh herbs, vegetables, and rice.
