Turkey Fillet with Mushrooms
A quick, homey dish that's both delicious and filling! Just about any mushrooms will work here. If you like a thicker sauce, stir in a little flour toward the end of cooking. You can also add any spices you like. I used dark turkey meat for this recipe; if you use white meat, you can shorten the cooking time since it's more tender.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Here's what you'll need to make turkey with mushrooms.
-
Step 2:
Cut the turkey fillet into medium pieces.
-
Step 3:
Cut the mushrooms (mine were frozen and then thawed) in half, or into quarters, depending on their size.
-
Step 4:
Cut the onion into half-moons.
-
Step 5:
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet and sauté the mushrooms and onion until soft.
-
Step 6:
In a second skillet, heat another tablespoon of vegetable oil and sear the turkey fillet until golden brown.
-
Step 7:
Add the mushrooms and onion to the seared turkey, pour in 1 cup of water, and stir in the sour cream (mine was 20% fat) and salt. Mix and simmer for 20 minutes.
-
Step 8:
While the dish simmers, cut the garlic cloves into large pieces.
-
Step 9:
After 20 minutes of simmering, add the chopped garlic and let it cook another 5 minutes.
-
Step 10:
After 5 minutes, you can turn off the stove. The turkey with mushrooms is ready.
-
Step 11:
Serve it on its own or with a side dish. It pairs well with fresh herbs, vegetables, and rice.
