Oven-Baked Pork Belly in a Baking Bag

A delicious meat appetizer for any holiday table! This pork belly baked in a bag is so tasty that it's almost all gone while still hot. Even so, I recommend making it ahead and saving it for your holiday spread.

Cooking method

  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you bake pork belly in a baking bag? Gather the ingredients. Choose thicker pieces of belly with plenty of meaty layers — the more meat, the tastier it turns out. Even a bit of fat in the belly adds juiciness.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

In a large bowl, combine the soy sauce, mustard, and vegetable oil. Peel the garlic and press it straight into the bowl. Add salt and seasonings to taste — remember that soy sauce is already salty. For seasonings, I use ground pepper, a little paprika, and dried basil, but feel free to adjust the mix to your taste. Stir all the marinade ingredients together well.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Roll the pork belly around in the marinade until it's evenly coated on all sides. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes; if you have time, a couple of hours is even better.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Place the pork belly along with the marinade in a baking bag and tie it off at both ends. Set it on a metal baking sheet and bake in an oven preheated to 350°F (180°C) for 1.5 hours.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

About 20 minutes before the end, cut the bag open along the top and expose the belly so it can brown a little in the oven.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Take the finished pork belly out of the oven, transfer it to a plate, and chill it in the refrigerator. Once cold, it firms up and slices cleanly. These meat slices are great on sandwiches in place of deli meat. Enjoy!

  • Since everyone's tolerance for saltiness, sweetness, bitterness, spice, sourness, and heat is different, always add spices and seasonings to your own taste! And if you're using a seasoning for the first time, remember that some are especially easy to overdo (chili pepper, for example).
  • Keep in mind that every oven is different. The temperature and cooking time may vary from what's in the recipe. To make any baked dish a success, check out our helpful guide on how ovens behave!
