Meatballs in Sour Cream and Tomato Sauce

Meatballs in a tomato–sour cream sauce — homemade and delicious! Make them now! Meatballs with gravy are a taste of childhood for me. Mom would come home from work, feed us dinner, and then get to work on the meatballs — she'd fry them, then try to keep them safe until the sauce was ready (Dad and I kept sneaking them), and then braise them for ages over very low heat. The dish would be done late at night, when everyone was already asleep. This recipe is the express version of Mom's.

    1. For the meatballs, peel one onion and dice it finely. Fry the onion in vegetable oil until golden. Combine the ground meat, a cup of cooked rice, the egg, salt, pepper, and the fried onion. Shape into meatballs and roll them in flour. Fry the meatballs in oil until golden on both sides. 2. For the sauce, peel the other onion and dice it. Fry it in vegetable oil until golden. Add the tomato paste, fry briefly, then add the water, sugar, salt, and pepper, and heat through. 3. Add the meatballs to the sauce along with the sour cream and bay leaf, and simmer for about 20 minutes. Enjoy!
