Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make sprat and cucumber sandwiches on a baguette? Very simply and quickly. First, gather all the ingredients on the list. Instead of a regular baguette, you can use a wheat baguette or rye bread. If you like, you can add finely chopped herbs and garlic put through a press to the processed cheese. It's better to buy the bread pre-sliced - it saves you time. Plus, evenly cut, neat slices look nicer on the table.
-
Step 2:
Take the sprats out of the can and shake off the oil. If you want to make the dish even cheaper, you can use store-bought sprat paste instead of whole sprats.
-
Step 3:
Wash the cucumber, dry it, and cut it into thin rounds. If the skin isn't tough, damaged, or bitter, you don't have to peel it. I didn't peel mine.
-
Step 4:
Spread the slices of white bread with processed cheese. If you like, you can toast the bread first in a toaster or a dry skillet. But in that case the bread needs to be cooled to room temperature, or the cheese will slide off the warm bread.
-
Step 5:
Place two cucumber rounds on each baguette slice. You can replace the fresh cucumber with a salted or pickled one. You can replace or supplement the cucumber with other vegetables - tomatoes, leeks or regular onion, iceberg lettuce leaves, and so on.
-
Step 6:
Lay two smoked fish on the cucumber. The number of servings and bread slices depends on how many sprats are in your can. The sprats in my can were large, so they were only enough for 4 sandwiches.
-
Step 7:
Serve the sandwiches garnished with parsley. Enjoy!
- You can replace the processed cheese with plain cream cheese or other cheeses like mozzarella or feta. It's also delicious with an ordinary cheese like Russian, but it's best to grate it and mix it with mayonnaise.
- You can also replace the processed cheese with soft, room-temperature butter.
