Cooking method

Cooking time: 15 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make a crouton, corn, and sausage salad? Gather the ingredients. Use canned corn - you'll need 1 can. The cucumbers are fresh. I use semi-smoked sausage (cervelat), but you can use smoked too. Hard or semi-hard cheese both work; the main thing is that it's good-quality and tasty. I use regular mayonnaise; you can use homemade.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Carefully open the can of corn with a can opener. Drain the liquid by tipping the kernels into a sieve. Put the canned corn in a deep salad bowl.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Peel the casing off the semi-smoked sausage and cut it into strips or sticks. Add the cut sausage to the bowl with the corn.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Grate the cheese on a coarse grater. Add the grated cheese to the bowl with the other prepared ingredients.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Wash the fresh cucumbers, trim off the ends, and cut them the same way as the sausage. Add the cut cucumbers to the salad.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Take the croutons out of the package and add them to the salad. It's better to choose croutons with a mild flavor. You can use homemade croutons. Dress the salad with mayonnaise and mix. I don't add salt, since both the sausage and the mayonnaise are quite salty. But you can taste the salad and add salt to your liking. Serve the salad right away so the croutons don't get soggy and lose their crunch.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

If you make the salad ahead of time, add the croutons and mayonnaise just before serving. You can serve the salad in a shared bowl garnished with fresh herbs, or make it in individual portions using a serving ring.

  • This salad isn't really for summer or an everyday snack. Because of its hearty components - sausage, cheese, mayonnaise - it's better suited to the winter season and a holiday table, when you want to round out a cold spread with a filling salad and feed your guests.
  • The salad looks neat and pretty if you cut all the ingredients into pieces of the same size and shape (cubes, for example).
  • It's better to make the mayonnaise yourself - it's tastier and better for you. See some interesting homemade mayonnaise recipes here. You can also use sour cream or plain yogurt as a dressing instead of mayonnaise. Use them on their own or mix them with mayonnaise in any ratio you like - this will cut the dish's calories.
  • How do you buy canned corn the right way? Be sure to check the expiration date on the can. If the container is glass, inspect the kernels closely. They should be the same size and color, whole and unblemished. The ingredients shouldn't include dyes, preservatives, or flavor enhancers.
