- November is feijoa season, and it doesn't last long. If you want to stock up on these fragrant green fruits, you'll have to hurry. A neighbor gave me this recipe for feijoa jam. It takes only half an hour to make and calls for the bare minimum of ingredients — just feijoa and sugar. This sweet treat goes wonderfully with crêpes, pancakes, and cheese pancakes (syrniki). I also stir it into cottage cheese, which makes a really tasty, wholesome fruity curd. Wash the feijoas and trim off the ends. The brown spots on the fruit are a sign of ripeness, so don't cut those away. Run the prepared fruit through a meat grinder or blitz it in a blender — how fine you grind it is up to your taste. Add sugar to the ground fruit and mix everything together thoroughly. Let the mixture stand a while so the sugar crystals fully dissolve. Your feijoa jam is ready. If you plan to store it, sterilize the jars and seal them tightly. The sterilizing time depends on the size of the jars.
