Tomato and Sausage Salad

Quick, simple, made from ordinary ingredients, in a flash! Tomato and sausage salad is an unfussy dish, but very tasty! The juiciness of fresh tomatoes is nicely balanced by the heartiness of the sausage. And a little garlic gives the salad a zesty note.

Cooking method

Cooking time: 15 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make a tomato and sausage salad? Gather the ingredients. You can use any sausage - cooked, dry-cured, or ham. Cut it into thin matchsticks. You can cut it any way, but matchsticks look more appetizing in this salad, in my opinion. Put the sliced sausage in a salad bowl.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Wash the tomatoes and cut them into large pieces. You can also use cherry tomatoes - just cut them into 2-4 pieces. Add the chopped tomatoes to the bowl with the sausage.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Grate the cheese on a coarse grater and add it straight to the salad. For salad I like to use hard cheeses - they grate easily.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Peel the garlic and press it through a garlic press. Add it directly to the salad.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Dress all the ingredients with a little mayonnaise and mix. I don't recommend adding a lot of mayonnaise - the tomatoes will release juice and the salad will turn runny. Transfer the finished salad to a serving bowl and bring it to the table. Enjoy!

  • For this salad I like to use ham sausage. It's dense in texture and doesn't have a strong flavor, so it won't clash with the overall taste of the salad. For more heartiness, you can add a couple of boiled eggs. Their addition also helps the salad's texture - they soak up some of the moisture the tomatoes release. You can vary the flavor by adding bell pepper, corn, or napa cabbage. Salads are really all about imagination - any combination of ingredients yields new flavors. This salad can be made as a standalone appetizer for any gathering. Cook with pleasure! Very tasty!
  • Choose juicy but firm tomatoes. Soft ones don't hold their shape well - they'll turn to mush as you slice and assemble them and spoil the look of the dish.
  • The salad looks neat and pretty if you cut all the ingredients into pieces of the same size and shape (cubes, for example).
  • It's better to make the mayonnaise yourself - it'll be tastier and better for you. See some interesting homemade mayonnaise recipes here. You can also use sour cream or plain yogurt as the dressing - on their own or mixed with mayonnaise in any ratio you like, which lowers the calorie count.
