Step-by-step cooking
Step 1:
Prepare the ingredients for a simple shortbread cookies on margarine. All products stored in the refrigerator should be at room temperature, so they need to be removed from it in advance. If there is no time for natural heating, then margarine can be melted a little in a microwave oven or in a water bath. Put the softened margarine in a bowl, add sugar and drive in a chicken egg.
Step 2:
With a mixer, blender or hand whisk, mix the ingredients until a homogeneous mass is obtained. To add a pleasant aroma to the baking and eliminate the specific taste of margarine, add a pinch of vanilla and mix again. Pour the sifted wheat flour combined with baking powder into a bowl with the mixture. Instead of baking powder, you can use baking soda, slaked with table vinegar, taken in equal parts – half a teaspoon.
Step 3:
Mix the mass until a smooth elastic dough is obtained, first stir the dough with a spoon, then knead with your hands. However, it is impossible to knead the shortbread dough for a long time, otherwise it will become hard and dense, the main task is to assemble the dough into a ball. Put the ball of dough in a plastic wrap and put it in the refrigerator for half an hour.
Step 4:
After the specified time, remove the dough from the refrigerator. On a flour-dusted work surface, roll out the dough into a layer no more than one centimeter thick. With a special curly cutting or glass, we cut out figures or circles from the dough.
Step 5:
We transfer the cookie blanks to a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. If desired, the cookies can be sprinkled with sugar or sesame seeds on top. We send the cookies to a preheated 180 degree oven for 20 minutes. You need to focus on the work of your oven, the cookies should increase slightly in volume and turn brown on top.
Step 6:
Take the cookies out of the oven, remove them from the baking sheet, let them cool down a little and serve them to the table, with tea, coffee, cocoa or milk. Have a nice tea party!
