Step 1:
How to bake an American pie? Prepare the products according to the list. If desired, you can replace some of the water with egg yolk, then the dough will be even more tender! Butter should be at room temperature, take it out of the refrigerator in advance.
Step 2:
I kneaded the dough in a food processor, but it's very easy to do it manually. Sift wheat flour into the bowl of the combine, add powdered sugar and diced butter.
Step 3:
Grind flour, butter and powdered sugar into fine crumbs. If you knead by hand, then either chop the mixture with a knife or rub the butter with flour with your hands, but then act very quickly so that the oil does not start to melt from the warmth of your hands. Add vanilla tincture and some water to the butter crumbs.
Step 4:
Knead the dough. Add water in small portions until the dough begins to gather in a lump. (Don't add all the water at once, you may need more or less water!).
Step 5:
Roll the finished dough into a ball, flatten it slightly, wrap it in a film and send it to the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes (it's better, of course, to leave it for an hour, but I always don't have enough time).
Step 6:
While the dough is resting, let's do stuffing. Wash the apples, peel and core them. Cut the apples into slices.
Step 7:
Mix the apples with cinnamon, sugar and lemon juice (if desired, you can add a little lemon zest) in a separate bowl. Mix it up. If the apples are very juicy, then add 1 tablespoon of starch.
Step 8:
Divide the dough into 2 parts. One part should be slightly larger than the other.
Step 9:
Roll out most of the dough according to the size of your shape, taking into account the sides. Transfer to a greased mold, make the sides. Put the apple filling on top. Level it up.
Step 10:
Roll out the second part of the dough thinly, cut into even strips and cover the pie with them in the form of a grid. Pinch the edges with your fingers with the sides of the pie. Before baking, optional (this is not necessary at all) brush the cake with a brush soaked in milk. So he will get a brighter crust.
Step 11:
Bake in a preheated 180C oven for about 30-40 minutes (focus on your oven!). Let the finished cake cool slightly, sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve to the table.
Step 12:
