Step-by-step cooking

Cooking time: 5 h
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1.

How to marinate herring with onion and vinegar? Prepare the necessary ingredients for this. Cut off the head of the finished salted herring and pull out the insides. Cut it in half lengthwise, remove the ridge, large bones and remove the skin from the fish. The amount of onion can be slightly changed to your taste. But there should be enough of it. Pickled onions also turn out very tasty.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2.

Cut the peeled herring fillet into portions. It is not necessary to cut very large, it is enough for 3-5 cm. Put the chopped herring in the bowl in which you will marinate it. Use glassware. It will be easier to wash it afterwards. Plastic dishes will smell of onions and fish for a long time.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3.

Take 9% vinegar for pickling. Combine it with water in a ratio of 1:3. Vinegar cannot be replaced with essence! But it can be replaced with grape or apple (gives a specific flavor).

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4.

Peel the onion and rinse in cold running water. Cut the peeled onion into half rings and remember it a little with your hands. This is necessary in order for the onion to become softer and let the juice flow faster.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5.

Mix the onion with the herring and pour over everything with a mixture of water and vinegar. For flavor, you can add a few peas of pepper and bay leaf. Marinate the herring for 5-6 hours in the refrigerator.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6.

Remove the delicious and fragrant pickled herring from the marinade, put it on a dish and serve it to the table. You can pour a little vegetable oil on it. Enjoy your meal!

So that the mucous membrane of the eyes is not irritated when slicing onions, rinse the onion and knife with cold water. The cutting board will not absorb the unpleasant onion smell if you rub it with a piece of lemon before slicing.

Vinegar in recipes, unless otherwise specified by the author, is added by default at a concentration of 9%.

For cooking, it is better to use filtered or bottled water that is neutral to taste. If you use tap water, keep in mind that it can give the dish an unpleasant characteristic taste.
