Pumpkin and Lemon Jam for Winter

Just like grandma's! Simple, quick, and incredibly delicious! This recipe is all about a wonderful pumpkin jam with lemon. It comes out a bright, vivid orange, with a pleasant tang. Some cooks use an orange instead of a lemon — that works too. In short, make it your own way!

Cooking method

  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

Today I want to share a delicious recipe I learned from my best friend — she taught me how to make pumpkin jam with lemon. So, gather your pumpkin, lemon, sugar, and water.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

    Peel the pumpkin.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Then cut it into thin slices.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Slice the lemon with the peel on, since the peel holds a lot of goodness. If you'd rather the peel be less noticeable, run the lemon through a meat grinder.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Now make the syrup. Put the sugar in a pot.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Add the water, stir, and bring to a boil over medium heat. The syrup is ready.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Add the pumpkin slices to the syrup.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Next, add the chopped lemon. Stir everything well.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

Cook the pumpkin jam for about 45 minutes to an hour, stirring now and then. I usually split the finished jam in two: I pour one half into pasteurized jars, seal them, and store them in the cellar for winter, and I put the other half in a jar in the fridge to eat soon.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10

I'd suggest keeping some jam in the fridge too, so you don't have to wait for winter — gather everyone for tea and enjoy this lovely jam today. As for what to spread it on, everyone's got something: pancakes, crêpes, bread, and so on.

  • In the U.S., pumpkin is most often used just for Halloween. In Russia, though, it's a part of both everyday meals and holidays, and there are countless recipes for it. Pumpkin even shows up in fairy tales — we all know the one. I'm a big pumpkin fan myself and try to work it into all sorts of dishes I make, and it's worth remembering how good for you it is. So make this jam and enjoy every bite!
