Cherry Lemonade with Mint
A delicious, quick homemade lemonade. Lemonade is a drink so many of us have loved since childhood — its sweet-tart flavor is wonderfully thirst-quenching. Cherry lemonade, with its bright flavor and beautiful color, is my favorite summer drink.
You can make cherry lemonade any time of year, with fresh or frozen cherries. I add a sprig of mint, which lends the drink a fresh, cooling note. Adjust the sugar to taste, depending on how sweet or tart your cherries are.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Gather all the ingredients you'll need to make the lemonade.
-
Step 2:
Make the mint syrup. Rinse a sprig of mint under running water and pull off 5–6 leaves. Pour the water into a pot and add the sugar and mint leaves. (If you don't care for mint, or need to skip it, just make a plain sugar syrup.) Set the pot on the stove and bring to a boil. While the syrup heats, wash the cherries and pit them.
-
Step 3:
Add the pitted cherries and the juice of half the lemon to the boiling syrup, then turn off the heat and let everything steep, covered, for about 30 minutes so the lemonade takes on the cherries' color and flavor.
-
Step 4:
After steeping, strain the cherry lemonade. Slice the remaining half lemon into thin rounds and drop them into the pitcher of finished lemonade. The cherry lemonade is ready! It's best served chilled with lemon slices. I hope you'll love this bright, delicious, sweet-tart drink with its hint of mint. Store homemade lemonade in the refrigerator. Enjoy!
- All summer long I'm always making cool drinks — fruit compotes, kvass, lemonades. When cherries are in season, cherry lemonade is our favorite. Delicious and fragrant with a pleasant tartness, it's a hit with kids and grown-ups alike. I wanted to share it with you, and I really hope you'll enjoy this wonderful, natural, wholesome drink.
