Easy Homemade Farmer Cheese from Kefir

Make a wholesome treat at home — delicious and quick! I make farmer cheese (tvorog) for the whole family; even the kids eat it happily, especially with various sweet add-ins (I have to get creative so they don't get bored of it). It's best made with homemade kefir, of course, but I've tried it with store-bought too and that came out just fine.

  • Making homemade farmer cheese from kefir is very easy. Pour the kefir into a stainless-steel pot and set it over medium heat. Warm the kefir to about 158°F (70°C). The kefir will separate into whey and cheese curds. Line a colander with several layers of cheesecloth, pour in the contents of the pot, and let the whey drain for an hour — then the cheese is ready to eat. Homemade farmer cheese is great both sweet and savory. You can enjoy it not only with honey, syrups, berries, and fruit, but also with fresh herbs. Enjoy, and stay healthy!
