Tomato and Cucumber Salad with Mayonnaise
This salad is one of the most frequent guests at our tables. There's hardly anyone among our readers who has never made it. We've known this salad since early childhood - our grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and mothers made it, and we can hardly do without it ourselves. And those with a garden or greenhouse and their own crop of tomatoes, cucumbers, and herbs can make it from vegetables picked straight from the patch.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Gather the ingredients. For a tomato and cucumber salad with mayonnaise, you'll need: cucumbers, tomatoes (regular or cherry; I'm using cocktail tomatoes), dill, cilantro, mayonnaise, ground black pepper, and salt.
-
Step 2:
Wash and dry the cucumbers. Cut them into rounds.
-
Step 3:
Wash and dry the tomatoes and cut them into wedges.
-
Step 4:
Rinse the dill and cilantro under running water, dry them, and chop them finely.
-
Step 5:
Put the tomato wedges, cucumber rounds, and chopped cilantro and dill in a salad bowl.
-
Step 6:
Salt and pepper the salad and dress it with mayonnaise. Toss everything well.
- The beauty of this salad is that besides mayonnaise, you can use any dressing: sour cream, yogurt, olive oil, or sunflower oil. It's especially tasty with unrefined farm sunflower oil - and the dressing left at the bottom after the vegetables are gone is especially good. You can use any herbs here: dill, parsley, green onion, basil. I used cilantro to give the salad an Eastern aroma. You can also add various dried herb blends or ready-made salad seasonings. Along with the tomatoes and cucumbers, you can add peeled onion sliced into thin half-rings, sweet bell pepper, or tender feta cheese, plus green lettuce leaves chopped with a knife or torn by hand - or ready-made salad mixes. All of this adds new notes to a taste you've known since childhood. Tomato and cucumber salad isn't just easy to make, it suits any table, whether a regular weekday lunch, a barbecue picnic, or a festive feast with lots of guests. It comes together in a few minutes and makes an ideal side for meat.
