Cooking method

Cooking time: 30 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make baked mushrooms in cream sauce with cheese? Start by prepping your ingredients. I'll be using white button mushrooms, and they can be any size — you won't even need to cut the small ones. Choose whatever cheese you like.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Peel the onion, rinse it in cold water, and chop it finely. Heat a skillet until hot and add a little vegetable oil. Add the chopped onion and cook for 1–2 minutes, until translucent.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Rinse the mushrooms well under running water to remove any dirt. Add the small ones to the skillet whole, and cut the larger ones into 2–4 pieces. Don't chop them too small — they'll shrink as they cook. Sauté the mushrooms with the onion for a couple more minutes.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Then sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms. Add salt and a little seasoning to taste. Stir everything together.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Get a baking dish ready — glass, silicone, or, like mine, ceramic all work. Transfer the mushrooms from the skillet to the dish. Pour the cream over them.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Spoon the cream over all the mushrooms. You can sprinkle a little ground pepper on top. Put the dish in an oven preheated to 350°F (180°C) for 15 minutes. The mushrooms will shrink as they bake.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

About 2–3 minutes before the end of baking, sprinkle the mushrooms with grated cheese.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

The cheese will melt in that time. Take the finished mushrooms in cream and cheese out of the oven and serve them right away. Enjoy!

  • Keep in mind that every oven is different, so your temperature and cooking time may vary from what's listed here.
  • Buy fresh, medium-sized mushrooms that are snowy white with no spots, damage, or musty smell. They shouldn't feel slimy to the touch. Rinse them thoroughly under warm or cold running water to remove any soil, and cut away any bad spots. Tiny mushrooms under about 3/4 inch (2 cm) don't need peeling — just rinse them well. For larger ones, it's best to peel off the thin skin from the caps.
