Chicken Club Sandwich
Really tasty, made from simple ingredients, perfect for a filling breakfast! A chicken club sandwich is quick and easy to put together. It's satisfying and looks festive enough for company. You could make it every day, just switching up the fillings and sauces.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make a chicken club sandwich? Gather everything you'll need. Rinse the chicken breast and pat it dry with paper towels. Instead of ham, you can use thinly sliced salami, deli meat, or even smoked bacon. If you can, use red onion — it looks especially appetizing in the finished sandwich and has a milder flavor than yellow onion.
-
Step 2:
Season the chicken breast with salt on both sides and add ground pepper.
-
Step 3:
Heat a grill pan, add just a little vegetable oil (about 1–2 tsp), and cook the breast over medium heat on both sides until done and golden. This may take 10 to 15 minutes.
-
Step 4:
Take the cooked breast off the pan and let it cool.
-
Step 5:
Meanwhile, prep the rest of the ingredients. In a small bowl, mix the mustard and mayonnaise. Peel the onion. Wash and dry the tomato, onion, and iceberg lettuce. Instead of iceberg, you can use romaine, spinach, butter lettuce, or frisée.
-
Step 6:
Tear the lettuce leaves into rough, not-too-small pieces. Slice the onion and tomato into thin rings.
-
Step 7:
Slice the breast on an angle into pieces about 1/4 inch (0.5 cm) thick.
-
Step 8:
Toast the sandwich bread in a dry grill pan on both sides.
-
Step 9:
Spread a little of the sauce on the bread.
-
Step 10:
Layer the lettuce and chicken breast on top.
-
Step 11:
Then add the onion rings.
-
Step 12:
Set another slice of bread on top and spread it with sauce again.
-
Step 13:
Next comes a layer of ham (or deli meat).
-
Step 14:
Lay tomato slices over the ham.
-
Step 15:
Make the next layer cheese.
-
Step 16:
Set lettuce leaves on the cheese. Spread the last slice of bread with sauce.
-
Step 17:
Cover the lettuce with the slice of bread, sauce side down.
-
Step 18:
Press the assembled sandwiches together lightly.
-
Step 19:
Cut the finished sandwiches into triangles with a sharp, thin knife.
-
Step 20:
Enjoy an amazingly tasty chicken club sandwich loaded with veggies!
- A club sandwich travels well for a picnic or a road trip. Just wrap each triangle in foil and it'll hold its shape for a good while. Enjoy!
- You can swap the chicken for turkey or any other meat you like. Just keep in mind that the cooking time and calorie count will change accordingly.
- Homemade mayonnaise is worth it — it tastes better and is better for you. For dressing, you don't have to stick to mayonnaise either; sour cream or plain yogurt works too. Use them on their own or mix them with mayonnaise in any ratio you like to cut down on calories.
