Cooking method

  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you bake pork in soy sauce? Gather your ingredients. For this dish you can use a lean cut with little fat (loin or ham) or a fattier cut (neck or shoulder), depending on your preference. I used boneless loin. The sesame can be black, white, or a mix — or you can skip it entirely. It adds less to the flavor than to the good looks of the finished dish.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Rinse the pork and pat it dry with paper towels.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Gather all the ingredients for the marinade. The oil can be olive or sunflower. If you like the taste of a natural, aromatic unrefined first-press sunflower oil, I'd recommend it here. There's no need to add salt — the soy sauce is already salty enough, and extra salt would overseason the pork.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Peel and finely chop the onion. You can use a regular yellow onion instead of red, but a red onion makes the marinade a little milder.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, oil, pork spices, sugar, and ground black pepper. Mix everything thoroughly.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Add the chopped onion and the garlic cloves put through a press.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Put the meat in the bowl with the marinade and let it marinate in the refrigerator for 6–8 hours. If you can't marinate it overnight, 1 to 1.5 hours at room temperature will do.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Transfer the pork to a baking dish and pour the soy-onion marinade over it. You can spread some of the onion over the top of the meat.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

Cover the dish with foil. Put the pork in an oven preheated to 350°F (180°C) for 40 minutes. The exact baking time depends on your oven. The main thing is not to dry out the meat, so if you know your oven runs slow, keep the pork under foil a little longer — 50 minutes instead of 40.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10

Then remove the foil and bake the meat about 20 minutes more, until golden, basting it now and then with the juices from the bottom of the dish.

  11. Step 11:

    Step 11

Five minutes before the pork is done, sprinkle it with sesame seeds and return it to the oven.

  12. Step 12:

    Step 12

Take the finished meat out of the dish, move it to a platter, and slice into portions. You can strain the leftover sauce and onion through a sieve, pour it into a gravy boat, and serve it alongside the meat. Enjoy!

  • With this recipe you can bake the meat in one whole piece or in smaller portioned pieces.

  • Keep in mind that every oven is different. Temperature and cooking time may vary from what's given here. For reliable results with any baked dish, get to know how your own oven behaves.
  • You can swap the pork for another meat. Just note that cooking time, flavor, and calorie count will change: beef takes longer than pork, while chicken or turkey takes less.
