Cooking method
-
Step 1:
1) Add the yeast, sugar, salt, and melted butter to the warm water, then gradually stir in the flour, mixing well as you go.
2) Once the dough gets too stiff to stir with a spoon, turn it out onto the counter and knead in the remaining flour.
3) The dough should come together slightly firm, but not overloaded with flour.
4) Leave the dough in a warm spot to rise and double in size, about 1.5–2 hours.
-
Step 2:
5) Meanwhile, cut the sausage or bacon into small strips and slice the onion into quarter-rings.
6) Set a skillet over the heat and add a pat of butter along with the vegetable oil.
7) Crush the garlic with the flat of a knife and fry it in the pan for about a minute.
8) Add the sausage and fry for about 3–4 minutes. You can fish out the garlic now if you like.
9) Add the onion and cook over medium heat for 15–20 minutes, until soft and translucent — don't let it brown. Stir in the basil at the end.
