Cooking method

Cooking time: 40 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make crab sticks with cheese and egg? Choose crab sticks that are straight and long — only those are good for stuffing. Thaw the crab sticks ahead of time if they were frozen; just take them out of the fridge half an hour before you start. Remove the crab sticks from their individual plastic wrappers, if they have them. Set an egg to boil until hard.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Now give each crab stick a gentle "massage" along its whole length — just roll each one between your fingers a little. This helps the layers separate from one another.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Find the edge and, starting from it, carefully unroll each crab stick into a flat sheet. Work gently so you don't tear the sheet.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Start on the filling for the appetizer. Grate the cheese on the fine side of a grater and put it in the bowl you'll use to mix the filling.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Peel the boiled egg and grate it on the fine side of the grater. Add it to the bowl with the cheese.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Peel a small clove of garlic and grate it finely. Add it to the bowl with everything else.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Add mayonnaise to taste and season with salt. Mix the filling thoroughly.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Lay the crab stick sheets face down (red side down). Spread the filling along the white inner edge.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

Roll the crab sticks up into little spirals and transfer them to a platter. Cover the platter with plastic wrap and refrigerate for half an hour so the filling sets — that makes the rolls easier to cut. After that, use a sharp knife to cut each roll in half on the diagonal and arrange them on a serving plate. Garnish with fresh herbs.

  • This dish is sure to please both in looks and in taste: sharp cheese, the richness of egg, tangy mayonnaise, and a light note of garlic combined with the distinctive flavor of crab sticks. No one will be able to resist. Enjoy!
  • It's better to make the mayonnaise yourself — it'll be tastier and healthier. Look here for some interesting homemade mayonnaise recipes. You can also use sour cream or plain yogurt as the dressing instead of mayonnaise. Use them on their own or mix them with mayonnaise in any ratio you like — that will cut down the calories in the dish.
  • How do you buy crab sticks the right way? Always check the use-by date. Surimi (minced white fish) should be listed first in the ingredients. Important! Don't buy the product if there's frost on it — that's a sign it's been refrozen. Fresh sticks should have no gray or yellow spots, be firm, and slightly moist. If the product is sticky, it has gone bad.
