Step-by-step cooking
Step 1:
Prepare coarse oat flakes, high-quality water, salt, sugar and butter. If you are preparing a lean version of porridge, the oil should be excluded, but you can add a little refined vegetable oil without smell. Depending on which flakes you use – coarse, medium or fine grinding, the cooking time depends (from 2 to 30 minutes). Therefore, before cooking oatmeal, be sure to read the instructions.
Step 2:
Pour filtered or bottled water into a saucepan with a thick bottom. Do not take tap water, it will negatively affect the taste of the dish. Depending on the consistency of oatmeal porridge you prefer, you can change the amount of water. The proportions for liquid oatmeal are 1 to 3, if you want a viscous porridge – 1 to 2 and for thick – 1 to 1.
Step 3:
When the water boils, add salt, sugar and oat flakes. There should be more salt if the porridge is planned to be salty, and vice versa, if the porridge is sweet, then put more sugar. Sugar can be replaced with a sweetener that is not afraid of heat treatment. You can also put ground cinnamon (about 0.5 tsp. l.) and vanilla and nutmeg on the tip of the knife. You should be careful with the dosage of spices, if you overdo it with them, the taste of porridge will be spoiled.
Step 4:
Bring the porridge to a boil, stir and boil on the lowest heat for about 15 - 30 minutes. Stir the porridge a couple of times, as it will be compacted from below, and liquid will remain on top. Delicious Herculean porridge on the water – ready! Let it brew under the lid so that the flakes absorb excess moisture and serve.
Soft, nutritious porridge can be served warm and cold. In oatmeal, you can put pre-steamed dried apricots or raisins, candied fruits, pieces of fruit, berries. If you cook porridge with dried fruits, you do not need to add sugar. You can add walnuts and seeds dried in a dry pan.
How to buy Hercules correctly? Inspect the packaging, it should be whole, without signs of moisture, opaque, as the flakes lose their useful properties in the light. Read the composition. It should include only oat flakes without flavorings and sweeteners. Be sure to pay attention to the expiration date.
Oat flakes should be stored in a hermetically sealed container or packaging at a temperature of no more than 20 degrees, in a dry place, as they will quickly become unusable in a humid environment.
