Homemade orange-and-lemon Fanta
A homemade drink that tastes every bit as good as the brand-name version. This recipe isn't the simplest, but the result is worth a little effort. You can give this Fanta to kids without a worry — though grown-ups will never turn down a sip of this orange refresher either!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Everyone loves Fanta, but the store-bought drink is full of unhealthy additives. Far better to make your own, so it actually does you some good. I've laid out exactly how to make homemade orange Fanta in this recipe, step by step. Use ripe, unblemished fruit.
-
Step 2:
Peel the oranges.
-
Step 3:
Finely chop the orange peels and put them in a jar.
-
Step 4:
Boil and cool one liter of water.
-
Step 5:
Cut the lemon in half and squeeze out the juice with a juicer.
-
Step 6:
Pour the prepared water over the peels and add the lemon juice. Put the jar in the refrigerator overnight just like that.
-
Step 7:
In the morning, tip the peels into a colander set over a pot and let all the liquid drain through — it'll come in handy soon.
-
Step 8:
Run the peels through a meat grinder.
-
Step 9:
Then return the ground peels to that same water. Set the pot on the stove and bring it to a boil.
-
Step 10:
Now strain it all, draining the liquid into a good-sized container.
-
Step 11:
Wring out the peels again, cover them with fresh water (1 liter), and let them boil for five minutes.
-
Step 12:
Then strain it and discard the spent peels.
-
Step 13:
Make a sugar syrup from two liters of water and the sugar, then let the syrup cool.
-
Step 14:
Mix everything together.
-
Step 15:
Now we need a little more orange juice.
-
Step 16:
Squeeze it from the peeled oranges and add it to the Fanta. Our homemade vitamin drink is ready to quench your thirst!
- What I loved about this recipe is that the result really is a drink that doesn't just match the store version — it beats it. And that's before we even get to how good it is for you: oranges are loaded with vitamins and minerals. They help strengthen bones, ward off atherosclerosis, lower harmful cholesterol, and keep cholesterol plaques from forming. Eating this fruit is also good for circulation and helps fight off viral illnesses.
