Microwave Corn on the Cob (in a Bag)
Wholesome, easy, fast, and so tasty! Microwave corn is one of the simplest dishes you can make in minutes. It works as a side or a snack on its own. Cooking it in a bag keeps it juicy and flavorful.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you microwave corn on the cob in a bag? Gather your ingredients. Use corn on the cob. It's best picked in August; later in the season it gets overripe, with hard, tough kernels. If you're buying at the market, choose ears with bright green, snug-fitting husks and a tassel at the tip. The kernels should be bright yellow. Young, milk-stage corn is best — it's more tender, sweet, and juicy.
-
Step 2:
Pull off the outer husks and the silk hanging out the top. Leave the inner husks that cover the kernels — they keep the juices from escaping during cooking, so the kernels stay sweet, juicy, and tender.
-
Step 3:
Put the ears in a clear plastic bag and tie or clip the end shut. With a knife, poke a few small holes in the top so steam can escape. Put the bag in the microwave. Set it to the highest power for 2 minutes. If the corn is more mature, cook it longer — you can do this in stages, a couple of 2-minute rounds. Don't overcook it, though, or it won't taste good.
-
Step 4:
Test for doneness with a sharp knife — it should pierce the cob easily. Carefully take the corn out of the bag (watch out, it's very hot!). Let it cool for a moment, but not too long — it should be served hot. Remove the inner husks and silk and put the ears on a plate.
-
Step 5:
Sprinkle the corn with salt and ground black pepper to taste, and dot small pieces of butter over the top. Serve right away. Enjoy!
- Keep in mind that microwaves vary. The cooking time and power setting may differ from what's in the recipe — check your appliance's manual and account for how your own microwave behaves.
- Since everyone's tolerance for salt, sweetness, bitterness, heat, and acidity is different, always add spices and seasonings to your own taste. If you're using a seasoning for the first time, keep in mind that some are especially easy to overdo (chili pepper, for example).
