Cooking method

  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make compote from frozen strawberries? Gather the ingredients you'll need. You don't have to thaw the frozen strawberries beforehand.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Put the prepared berries in a suitable pot and cover them with water. Set the pot over the heat and bring it to a boil. The berries will thaw as it heats up.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Rinse the orange thoroughly under running water, then zest it. Adding orange is entirely optional here. The subtle aroma of orange zest nicely accents the strawberry notes. I love it!

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Add the orange zest and sugar to the pot. You can adjust the amount of sugar up or down to your taste. Stir everything and simmer the compote for another 3–5 minutes. Then take the pot off the heat and cover it with a lid. Let the compote steep a little — 15–20 minutes is enough.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Then strain the finished compote through a sieve and let it cool. Though that's up to you. If you like your compote with the berries in it, you don't have to strain it. The strawberries in the compote are very tasty.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Pour the strawberry compote into a pitcher and serve. The compote is ready! Enjoy!

  • During the summer berry season, when strawberries are plentiful, you can preserve them by simply freezing them.
  • In winter, when no fresh berries are available, you can make delicious compotes from frozen ones. And you're not limited to strawberries — any berries you have on hand can go into the compote.
  • Strawberry compote is delicious both warm and cold. In summer you can add ice cubes for a refreshing cold drink.
  • You can use a sugar substitute instead of sugar.
  • For cooking, it's best to use filtered or bottled water with a neutral taste. If you use tap water, keep in mind it can give the dish an unpleasant, distinctive aftertaste.
