Five-Minute Black Currant Jam
A quick, delicious five-minute black currant jam. This kind of jam is a very popular thing to put up for winter — it's super easy to make and tastes wonderful!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
For five-minute black currant jam you'll need fresh, ripe black currants, sugar, and water. Pick over the currants well, removing any debris, stems, and spoiled or unripe berries. Rinse them well in a colander and let all the water drain off completely.
-
Step 2:
Pour the measured sugar into a wide jam pot.
-
Step 3:
Add the water in the amount called for.
-
Step 4:
Set the pot over the heat and bring to a boil to make a sugar syrup.
-
Step 5:
Once the sugar has fully dissolved, add the prepared black currants to the syrup.
-
Step 6:
Bring the jam to a boil and, skimming off the foam as it forms, boil over low heat for exactly five minutes from the moment it boils. Turn off the heat.
-
Step 7:
Ladle the jam into sterilized glass jars and seal them. It keeps at room temperature.
-
Step 8:
That's it! Your delicious five-minute black currant jam is ready. It gels nicely and has a bright, rich flavor and color.
- This five-minute black currant jam is lovely on its own as a dessert with tea; you can also stir it into porridge or pudding, spread it between cake layers, or serve it alongside any baked goods. It's especially good over pancakes with a scoop of ice cream! You can use it as a base for fruit drinks and compotes, on its own or combined with other berries and fruit — it adds gorgeous color to pale apple or pear compotes and drinks. Thanks to its short cooking time, it keeps more of the berries' nutrients, which is a real plus. Stir in a little agar-agar and you'll have a true jelly — even a clear, brightly colored fruit gel that kids and grown-ups both love.
