Step 1:
Wash the berries.

Trim the stems and tails off the berries. A pair of regular scissors is the easiest tool for this.

Put the gooseberries in a deep pot and add enough water to cover them completely.

Bring to a boil over low heat, stirring the berries with a spoon now and then.

As soon as it boils, pour in the sugar and stir thoroughly.

Bring it back to a boil, skim off the foam, and turn off the heat.

Let the finished jam cool, then ladle it into jars. For a smoother texture, you can press the berries through a sieve.
