Homemade Burger Patties

Quick, tasty, juicy burger patties just like at McDonald's. Who doesn't love a burger?! It may have a reputation as junk food, but just about everyone treats themselves to one now and then — and kids especially love a bun with a patty. The good news is you can make them at home from simple, natural ingredients, which turns "junk food" into something tasty and wholesome. And burgers come together fast if you use store-bought buns — all that's left is to cook the patties.

Cooking method

Cooking time: 25 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

Gather your ingredients. Freshly ground chilled beef makes the tastiest, most tender patties, but if all you have is homemade ground meat that's been frozen, that works too — just thaw it first. Beyond the standard salt and black pepper, feel free to add a dedicated meat seasoning or anything else you like.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

To a bowl of ground meat (a beef-and-pork blend gives juicier, richer patties; ground chicken makes a leaner option), add salt, black pepper, and meat seasoning to taste.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Mix well so the seasonings are evenly distributed. Don't add egg or bread to burger patties — they should be pure meat, so the flavor stays natural and rich.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

With wet hands, take small portions of the meat and shape flat, round patties, roughly the size of your burger buns.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet — don't skimp, or the patties won't stay juicy. Once the oil is hot, lay in the patties and cook over medium heat. Brown the first side for about 5 minutes, then flip and brown the second side. Cover the pan and let them cook through under the lid over medium heat for about 7 minutes.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Transfer the patties to a paper towel to blot off the excess oil. Whip up your favorite burger sauce, build the burgers with a bun, a patty, and some greens, and serve. Enjoy!
