Easy Lavash Lasagna with Ground Chicken
Incredibly tasty, bright, juicy, and so easy! This easy lavash lasagna with ground chicken is worth trying at least once. Who knows — you might just prefer it to the classic version, that's how good and simple it is to make!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make easy lavash lasagna with ground chicken in the oven? Start by gathering everything on the ingredient list. You can use store-bought ground chicken or grind your own from chicken breast; finely chopped chicken works too. If you like, you can also mix an onion into the meat.
-
Step 2:
Grate the cheese on the medium holes of a box grater. Use a regular melting cheese like Gouda, or go with mozzarella for that pizza-style pull.
-
Step 3:
Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground chicken and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes until the excess liquid cooks off. If you want onion in the mix, peel and finely chop it first and cook it along with the chicken.
-
Step 4:
As the chicken cooks, season it with salt and pepper, then add the tomato paste and water. Stir everything together gently. You can swap the tomato paste for a fresh tomato, peeled and grated on the fine holes of a box grater.
-
Step 5:
Simmer everything together for another 2–3 minutes, then turn off the heat. The filling shouldn't be dry — it needs plenty of tomato sauce to soak into the lavash.
-
Step 6:
Cut the lavash into several rectangles. Two should be larger than your baking dish, and the rest slightly smaller than the dish.
-
Step 7:
Grease a baking dish (mine is about 6x8 inches / 16x20 cm) and lay in the two large lavash sheets so they line the bottom and come up the sides.
-
Step 8:
Spread a little filling over the lavash and smooth it out, then sprinkle lightly with grated cheese.
-
Step 9:
Lay a smaller lavash sheet on top and spread it with filling and cheese as well. Keep alternating layers of lavash and filling to build up the lasagna until you've used all the chicken.
-
Step 10:
Cover the top layer of filling with a sheet of lavash and sprinkle generously with grated cheese. Put the dish in an oven preheated to 350°F (180°C) and bake for about 15–20 minutes, until golden. Adjust the exact time and temperature to your own oven.
-
Step 11:
Let the finished lasagna cool slightly, cut it into portions, and serve warm. Enjoy!
- How do you pick good lavash? First, check the production date on the package and skip anything past its prime. Fresh lavash should smell pleasant, with no spots or signs of mold.
- The tomato paste here can be swapped for canned tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, or ketchup.
- Keep in mind that every oven is different. Your temperature and baking time may vary from what's written here, so watch the dish as it bakes.
