Beer Snack Platter
Easy, quick snacks to go with beer! Sometimes on a Sunday evening, the grown-ups in the house want to kick back with friends, watch the game, and have a beer. And it's nice to enjoy that cold brew with something that pairs well but isn't as junky as the packaged store-bought stuff. For times like these, there are plenty of snack recipes you can put together from everyday ingredients in a hurry, right as the company is pulling up.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
One of the simplest snacks you can throw together in just a few minutes is garlic croutons. All you need is bread — it doesn't even have to be fresh; slightly stale works too, and whether you use white or rye is up to you. Besides the bread, you'll need a few cloves of garlic, some hot spices and seasoning to taste, and salt.
-
Step 2:
Cut the bread into cubes or sticks, however you like. Put them in a bowl and add the peeled garlic — pressed, grated on a fine grater, or finely minced. Add salt and hot pepper to taste, along with a little freshly ground coriander and sweet paprika. Toss the bread well with the seasonings so it soaks up the flavor.
-
Step 3:
Pour vegetable oil into a skillet and heat it. Add the seasoned bread and fry until golden on all sides, stirring with a spatula. Transfer the croutons to a paper towel to drain off the excess oil.
-
Step 4:
The second snack is baked bread crisps. Unlike croutons, they aren't fried in a skillet but dried in the oven. You can use the same seasoning to taste — just pour the vegetable oil right into the bowl along with the spices, then spread the pieces on a dry baking sheet. Feel free to switch up the flavor with any other spices you like.
-
Step 5:
Homemade potato chips are just as easy a snack. They come together very simply: wash and peel the potatoes, cut them into thin slices, and pat them dry on a paper towel.
-
Step 6:
Put them in a bowl, add salt, ground red pepper, and sweet paprika, pour in the vegetable oil, toss, and let the potatoes soak up the seasoning.
-
Step 7:
Line a baking sheet with parchment. Spread the potatoes on it and bake in an oven preheated to 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes. Take the chips out and lift them off the sheet right away. Deep-fried potatoes are also great with beer — cut into rounds or sticks and fried in hot oil, then drained on a paper towel and sprinkled with salt and ground black pepper.
-
Step 8:
Salted fried almonds are another popular, easy beer snack.
-
Step 9:
Rinse the almonds well with water. To slip off the skins, soak them briefly in boiling water — but you can also leave the skins on; they don't affect the flavor much and save you time.
-
Step 10:
Put the almonds in a dry skillet and toast them over medium heat. Then add the vegetable oil, salt, and hot pepper. Stir and fry the nuts until golden.
-
Step 11:
Arrange the finished snacks on a platter and serve with beer. Enjoy!
