Hot Garlic-Paprika Egg Toast
A romantic, throw-together breakfast from the simplest ingredients. Egg-dipped toast is a simple, satisfying dish for the whole family. It couldn't be easier to make, and the ingredients are always on hand. A breakfast table set with a little love sets the mood for the whole day.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Even day-old bread works fine here. With a sharp knife, cut slices about ½ inch (1–1.3 cm) thick. Thicker pieces won't heat through, and thinner ones will fall apart. You'll need 4 slices.
-
Step 2:
Even in the morning rush, use this recipe as a little way to show your loved ones you care. A fun shape is perfect for that. You can cut the bread into triangles or squares, or use a glass or cookie cutters for unusual shapes — I promise even a picky eater will happily dig in. My suggestion: hearts. Cut the slices as shown in the photo and use the right-hand piece.
-
Step 3:
Paired up, the pieces form hearts.
-
Step 4:
Crack the egg into a suitably sized bowl, add a little salt, and whisk until smooth. Don't whip it to a froth.
-
Step 5:
Add the paprika, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir to combine.
-
Step 6:
Heat a skillet and pour in the oil. Dip each piece of bread into the egg for a few seconds, coating both sides, then place it on the hot skillet.
-
Step 7:
Fry the toast for a minute per side, until golden. Transfer the pieces to a paper-towel-lined plate to blot the excess oil. Serve.
- Choose the seasonings, herbs, and add-ins to taste, or go with the ones here. A refined, odorless vegetable oil is best for frying. The toast has a pleasant eggy flavor with a hint of spice and a soft, tender texture. Round it out with sliced vegetables or cold cuts, melted cheese, or pâté. It looks appetizing and is sure to please your family. Serve the toast with hot sweet tea or vegetable juice. It's best eaten right away — it loses its flavor as it cools, and reheating isn't recommended. For a lighter version, bake the toast in the oven, skip the oil, and swap the white bread for whole-grain.
