  • Use chilled ground meat and mix it with the sautéed onion and the pre-cooked rice. Beat in the eggs, then add whatever seasonings you have on hand, along with salt and ground pepper. For the sauce: stir together the sour cream and tomato sauce (tomato paste works too). Dissolve a little flour in warm water, add it to the sour cream–tomato mixture along with the grated carrot, pour it into the slow cooker, and heat on the "fry"/sauté setting for 15–20 minutes. Once the sauce is hot, drop in the meatballs. Switch the slow cooker to the "stew"/braise setting and cook for 1 to 1½ hours.
