Cooking method

Cooking time: 15 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make a napa cabbage, tomato, and cheese salad? Gather the ingredients. Remove the outer leaves from the napa cabbage - we won't need them. Rinse the tomatoes well in cool water. Rinse the herbs, onion, and dill too, and blot them with a towel to remove excess moisture. You can use any cheese, as long as it grates easily.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Cut the head of napa cabbage in half lengthwise - it's easier to slice that way. Shred the napa cabbage and scrunch it a little with your hands. Why scrunch it? It softens the cabbage and gets it to release its juices, which gives the finished salad a softer, more tender taste. Put the shredded cabbage in the bowl you'll make the salad in.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Cut the tomatoes in half and cut out the stem. Cut the tomatoes into thin but large slices.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Add the sliced tomatoes to the bowl with the napa cabbage.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Grate the cheese on a coarse grater - you can grate it straight into the salad bowl.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Finely chop the green onion and dill and add them to the salad bowl too.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Dress all the ingredients with a little mayonnaise and mix well. Before serving, chill the salad slightly in the fridge. If you like, instead of mayonnaise you can dress the salad with olive oil and lemon juice, or with plain sour cream.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Transfer the finished salad to a serving bowl and bring it to the table. You can also divide the salad into individual ramekins. Enjoy!

  • Napa cabbage pairs well with many ingredients, so making any salad with it is no trouble at all. To make the salad more filling, you can add croutons or smoked chicken. And for sweetness, you can add canned corn. Each new ingredient changes the salad's flavor, so there are endless ways to make it. Use your imagination and cook to your heart's content!
  • It's better to make the mayonnaise yourself - it'll be tastier and better for you. See some interesting homemade mayonnaise recipes here. You can also use sour cream or plain yogurt as the dressing - on their own or mixed with mayonnaise in any ratio you like, which lowers the calorie count.
  • Choose juicy but firm tomatoes. Soft ones don't hold their shape well - they'll turn to mush as you slice and assemble them and spoil the look of the dish.
