- You can use store-bought ground meat or make it ahead from any meat, but it tastes best from a mix of beef and pork. Shred the cabbage. Finely chop the onion. Pour the oil into the slow cooker bowl, turn on the "Fry" program, heat the oil, add the chopped onion, and sauté it a little. Add the ground meat and, stirring constantly, cook it until about half done. Add the cabbage and stir. Season to taste. Pour in the water and set the "Stew" program for 2 hours. During that time you can happily forget about cooking and go about your day. The slow cooker will beep when the braised cabbage with ground meat is done. Enjoy!
