Pork Stroganoff with Gravy in a Skillet
A tasty everyday dinner that comes together fast! Everything in this pork stroganoff works together beautifully. The sour cream soaks into the meat, keeping it tender and full of flavor — and you can make it with just about any cut of meat.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make pork stroganoff with gravy in a skillet? Start by gathering all your ingredients. Choose boneless pork with as little fat as possible.
-
Step 2:
Slice the pork into thin cutlets and pound them lightly with a meat mallet. Pounding makes the finished meat softer and more tender.
-
Step 3:
Then cut the pounded meat into thin strips.
-
Step 4:
Dredge the meat in flour. The easiest way is to toss it in a zip-top bag with the flour and shake until every strip is evenly coated on all sides.
-
Step 5:
Peel the onion and cut it into half rings, or a little finer. Add a splash of vegetable oil to a hot skillet and sauté the onion over low heat for 2–3 minutes, until it turns translucent.
-
Step 6:
Add the floured meat to the skillet and fry it with the onion for a few minutes, just until the meat changes color.
-
Step 7:
Stir the sour cream into the water and pour it over the meat. Season with salt and spices to taste. Bring everything to a boil, stirring as you go. Cover the skillet and cook over the lowest heat for 20–25 minutes. Add a bay leaf for extra aroma if you like. You can adjust the amount of water up or down depending on how much gravy you want.
-
Step 8:
Take the finished dish off the heat and serve with any side you like. Sprinkle with fresh herbs just before serving. Enjoy!
- Important! The wrong skillet can ruin even the best recipe. For all the details on choosing the perfect pan for different dishes, see here.
- You can make this dish with any meat, not just pork. Keep in mind that the cooking time, flavor, and calorie count will change — beef, for example, takes longer than pork, while chicken breast or turkey cooks faster.
- Since everyone's sense of salty, sweet, bitter, spicy, and sour is different, always add spices and seasonings to your own taste. If you're using a seasoning for the first time, remember that some are easy to overdo — chili pepper, for example.
