Cooking method
- This cabbage-and-prune dish is also a good fit for anyone observing a fast or watching calories. Peel the onion and cut it into small dice. Peel the carrot and grate it on the coarse side of a grater — or cut it into matchsticks. Trim the outer leaves from the cabbage and shred it. Soak the prunes in hot water. Fry the cabbage in vegetable oil until soft. Add the onion and carrot and fry until golden. Stir in the tomato paste and prunes. Add salt, spices, and pepper to taste. Mix well and braise over low heat until fully tender, stirring now and then. Serve the cabbage with prunes on its own as a main course, or as a tasty side dish alongside meat or fish.
