Cooking method

Cooking time: 30 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make non-alcoholic mulled wine with juice? Gather your ingredients. For the base you can use grape juice and cherry syrup, or the other way around — cherry juice and grape syrup. Honey is optional, especially if the juice and syrup are already sweet. Use more or less of the spices to taste. If you go with grape juice, any syrup works, not just cherry — and vice versa.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Wash all the fruit thoroughly. Without peeling them, slice the apple, orange, lime, and lemon halves.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Put the prepared fruit in a saucepan and add the cinnamon sticks, star anise, and whole cloves. Add more of whichever spices you like best — extra cinnamon sticks or star anise, say. Same with the fruit. If you don't like the bitterness of lime, leave it out entirely. Adjust everything to your own taste.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Pour the grape juice and cherry syrup over the fruit.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Set the saucepan over low heat, bring it to a boil, and let the mulled wine simmer gently for 1-2 minutes.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Taste the mulled wine and add honey if needed.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

You can pour the finished mulled wine, fruit and all, into a pitcher or straight into glasses. I removed the fruit and spices first and strained the drink through a sieve.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Pour the hot drink into special handled mulled-wine glasses. To dress up the glasses while the mulled wine simmers, dip their rims in syrup and then in a bowl of sugar.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

If you like, add some fruit from the saucepan to the glasses and serve the mulled wine. Enjoy!

  • Since everyone's tolerance for salt, sweetness, bitterness, heat, acidity, and pungency is different, always add spices and seasonings to your own taste! If you're trying a seasoning for the first time, keep in mind that some are especially easy to overdo (chili pepper, for example).
  • Instead of the spices listed here, you can use a ready-made mulled-wine spice blend.
