Thin milk rice porridge
Delicious milky rice porridge just like in childhood! Many people remember the taste of tender, fragrant rice porridge from their childhood, when mom or grandma often made it for breakfast. What stuck in your memory was probably that thin, very soft, almost soupy texture with a pleasant creamy, milky taste. That's exactly the kind of rice porridge made for children. Now plenty of people — not just kids but grown-ups too — can't imagine a good start to the day without porridge for breakfast. Thin milk rice porridge is a great option for that. It's easy on the stomach, filling, and keeps you energized for a long time.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Gather the ingredients for the thin rice porridge. The most important thing for thin milk rice porridge is getting the ratio of rice to liquid right. For one cup of rice you need four cups of liquid. If you're making it with milk only, that's 4 cups of milk. If you're using water, it's best to take equal parts water and milk so the porridge still comes out milky.
-
Step 2:
First, rinse the rice thoroughly, changing the water several times, until the water runs clear. For thin porridge, use short-grain rice — it has plenty of starch and cooks down well.
-
Step 3:
Pour the milk into a pot. You can choose the milk's fat content to taste. For children, natural farm products are best, of course. If you want a lower-calorie dish, use skim milk or thin the milk with water. Set the pot over the heat and bring it to a boil. Add the salt and stir. Add the prepared rice. Stir it in right away so it doesn't stick to the bottom of the pot.
-
Step 4:
Bring the mixture to a boil, turn the heat down to medium, and cook for about 20 minutes, stirring now and then with a spoon. Then add the sugar, stir again, and keep it on the heat for another couple of minutes. Turn off the heat.
-
Step 5:
Add a knob of butter to the pot of porridge, cover it, and wrap it in a warm throw or blanket. Leave the porridge under its "fur coat" for 20 to 30 minutes so it can steam and soften.
-
Step 6:
The porridge is ready. Spoon it into bowls and serve, with jam, fresh berries, or pieces of fruit if you like. Enjoy!
