Ham, Cheese, and Cucumber Cocktail Salad
Pretty, festive, tasty, and quick! This cocktail salad with ham, cheese, and cucumbers stands out for its individual portions and dressy look. The ingredients are layered with alternating colors — and it looks gorgeous!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make a ham, cheese, and cucumber cocktail salad? Gather your ingredients. Rinse the cucumber and bell pepper well under running water and pat them dry. Boil the eggs ahead of time for about 8–9 minutes, then drain off the hot water and cover them with cold water; let them cool completely. Use any ham you like best.
-
Step 2:
A cocktail salad needs special serving vessels — tall, wide glasses or stemmed glasses, which show it off beautifully. Cut the ham into thin strips and layer it into the glasses, pressing it gently against the bottom so the layer is nice and compact. Top the ham with a little mayonnaise.
-
Step 3:
Cut the fresh cucumber into strips too, and add it as the next layer, with a little more mayonnaise.
-
Step 4:
Peel and chop the boiled eggs. Add them as the next layer, pressing down a bit. Top the egg layer with mayonnaise.
-
Step 5:
Cut open the bell pepper and remove the core and seeds. Cut it into strips and add it, topped with mayonnaise.
-
Step 6:
For the top layer, add cheese grated on the fine side of a grater. The cocktail salad is ready! Garnish it however you like and serve. You can chill it briefly before serving. Enjoy!
- It's better to make your own mayonnaise — it's tastier and better for you. See some great homemade mayonnaise recipes here. You can also dress the salad with sour cream or plain yogurt instead of mayo, on their own or blended with mayonnaise in any ratio you like, which lightens the dish.
- Always wash eggs before using them — even a shell that looks clean can carry harmful bacteria. A food-safe wash and a brush work best.
- The salad looks neat and pretty if you cut all the ingredients into pieces of the same size and shape (cubes or sticks, for example).
