Dried Apricot and Raisin Compote
This compote has a rich flavor and a pleasant aftertaste! The drink is at its best served cold. Sip it alongside homemade baked goods and any dessert. You can serve this compote to honored guests at a holiday table without a second thought — they'll appreciate how good it tastes.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Put the dried apricots and raisins into separate small, deep bowls and cover with warm water. After 5 minutes, drain the water and rinse the apricots and raisins well. This removes any grit and keeps the water cleaner while the compote cooks.
-
Step 2:
Put the prepared, rinsed raisins and dried apricots into an enameled pot of a suitable size — you can cut the apricots into smaller pieces. Sprinkle the sugar on top. If you like sweeter drinks, increase the amount of sugar to your taste.
-
Step 3:
Pour in 3 liters of clean water. I use meltwater for cooking — I first freeze it in the freezer and then thaw it. With water like that, all the sediment stays at the bottom and the harmful impurities are gone. Set the pot over medium heat, cover it, and wait for the water to boil.
-
Step 4:
After that, keep the pot on the stove for about another 10–15 minutes. By then the compote will have taken on a rich color and be ready to drink. Turn off the heat and let the compote cool. After that you can pour it into a glass jar — set a piece of cheesecloth over the jar's mouth to catch any bits. Cover the jar and put the compote in the fridge. It tastes much better chilled.
- Dried apricot and raisin compote is a vitamin-rich drink for any season.
