Pumpkin Porridge with Milk in a Slow Cooker (No Grains)
Quick, delicious, and fuss-free! Even a beginner cook can make pumpkin porridge with milk in a slow cooker without any grains. It comes out fragrant and very tasty. You'll have no trouble putting together a wholesome breakfast or a light supper for your family.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make pumpkin porridge in a slow cooker? Gather all the ingredients for grain-free porridge. If you like, you can later add vanilla or fresh berries to taste. Choose a pumpkin with orange flesh so the porridge turns out a bright color.
-
Step 2:
Cut the pumpkin into pieces, scoop out the seeds, and cut off the rind. If the rind is very tough, cut the pumpkin into small pieces — it's easier to peel that way. Cut the peeled pumpkin into pieces and put them in the slow cooker bowl. The smaller you cut it, the softer it will cook down.
-
Step 3:
Pour the milk into the bowl with the pumpkin. You can use cream instead of milk for a more delicate porridge. Add the sugar to the pumpkin and milk. You can swap regular sugar for cane or brown sugar to give the porridge a light caramel flavor.
-
Step 4:
Close the slow cooker lid and set the "Stew" mode for 40 minutes. Mine only goes up to 30 minutes, so after the beep I had to run the program again for another 10 minutes.
-
Step 5:
Transfer the cooked pumpkin to a bowl and mash it with a potato masher into a purée. If you want it completely smooth, blitz it with a blender. Taste the porridge and adjust it with sugar and salt if you like. If you're serving it hot, you can finish it with a pat of butter.
-
Step 6:
Enjoy!
- Root vegetables are best scrubbed clean with a brush or a firm sponge under running water.
- Instead of sugar, you can use a sweetener that holds up to heat.
- Keep in mind that the cooking time and setting in the recipe are approximate. Every slow cooker works differently, and even identical models from the same maker can behave their own way. Before you try a new dish in your slow cooker, read its manual carefully, then start by making dishes you already know well before moving on to new ones, dialing in the setting and timing for your particular machine.
